First Shhh! in Copenhagen
Shhh - Copenhagen Festival Sept 9 - 16

The children and youth film festival Shhh! is unspooling for the first
time in Copenhagen from September 9 to 16, right on time for the start
of the new school year. Aimed at kids and youth from 4 to 19, the
festival intends to fill the gap left in 2007 by BUSTER in the Danish
festival calendar year.

Held in five venues in the Danish capital, the festival is run by Camera
Film and co-organized by Ulrich Breuning, Film Professor at Large, and
Jan Frydensbjerg of the Danish Children's and Youth Film Clubs. The
programme is split into 10 sections including Friends and Neighbours
featuring 15 films from the Nordic region and 'Meet the Professionals'
such as directors Per Fly and Jesper W. Nielsen and producer Peter
Aalbeck Jensen.

REPORTS / IT: The EU Kids Online network has completed its first year (EUROPE)

The EU Kids Online network has completed its first year

Three new reports from the EU Kids Online network have been completed -
see below for a summary. Each can be freely downloaded from our website.

We are delighted to welcome three new countries into our network -
Ireland, Cyprus and Italy – making 21 countries in all.

Recent PowerPoint presentations and papers relating to the EU Kids
Online network are also available on the website.

To keep our work up to date, the details of more studies in the field of
children and the internet have been added to our searchable online
repository, bringing this to a total of 295 projects identified and coded.

To support this work, we reissue our invitation to researchers,
policy-makers and practitioners. If you know of any relevant research or
research-related activities that impact on questions of children and
young people's use, risk and safety online, please email

Children, Youth & Media Conference: Are We Listening?


Montreal, September 27, 2007

On November 29, the Alliance for Children and Television (ACT) will host
the second Children, Youth & Media Conference. This event is the only
one of its kind to bring together Canada's creators, producers and
broadcasters of children's and youth programming. This year's theme,
"Are We Listening?", promises to generate lively discussions through a
series of sessions and panels on key screen-based media issues for
Canadian children and youth.

Below are a few highlights on the agenda:

Broadcasters' Panel: Representatives from BBC Kids, CBC, Corus
Entertainment, Family Channel, TELETOON and TVOntario take questions
from youngsters.
Reality Check: Facts and statistics about kids from Youthography
The Future Evolution of Rights: A promising debate on the future
evolution of rights between broadcasters, producers and the two major
funding agencies
Television for Preschoolers: Are We Responsible Enough?: Renowned
experts talk about the impact of television on the early stages of
development
Which Came First: The TV Show or the Original New-Platform Content Tied
to a Children's Program?: A discussion on what broadcasters and funding
agencies are looking for when evaluating a multiplatform project

The Alliance for Children and Television is a not-for-profit
organization whose purpose is to promote youth television production of
the highest quality. In addition to granting Awards of Excellence, the
ACT has for over three decades been offering its members professional
development activities such as seminars, conferences, workshops and
screenings, helping producers and other creators keep up with today's
ever-changing youth culture.

The Children, Youth & Media Conference is being produced with financial
assistance from its partners: the Independent Production Fund, the Shaw
Rocket Fund, Decode Entertainment, Family Channel and Hit Entertainment.

Council of Europe boosts young people' participation in the dialogue of civilisations and cultures

Council of Europe boosts young people' participation in the dialogue of
civilisations and cultures

Strasbourg, 27.09.2007- Some 300 young people and youth organisations
from different regions of the world are gathering in Mollina, Spain,
from 30 September to 7 October to participate in the 8th University on
Youth and Development.

The week-long event aims to determine the international youth's
contribution to the Alliance of Civilisations process and intercultural
dialogue.

Participants will be trained in inter-religious dialogue and
anti-discrimination in the Euro-Mediaterranean region, and learn more
about global youth education and participation. They will also attend
music and theatre sessions and take part in sports events that will
contribute to team building and strengthen social skills.

The event, entitled "Alliance of Civilisations, Intercultural Dialogue",
is hosted by the Spanish Youth Institute and organised by the
North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, in collaboration with other
partners such as the European Youth Forum, the Latin American Youth
Forum, the Spanish Youth Council and other international youth
organisations.

Launched in 2000, the University brings together representatives of
youth organisations and youth movements from all over the world to the
Euro-Latin-American Youth Centre to discuss, train and be trained, and
also to take political action on the main global issues.
