Caracol Radio brings young voices to Colombia?s airwaves

Each December, UNICEF's International Children?s Day of Broadcasting involves young people worldwide in media programming and production, giving them a chance to express their opinions on major issues and develop new skills. Here is one in a series of stories about youth media.

NEW YORK, USA, 27 November 2006 ? Colombia?s children and young people have actively participated in the International Children?s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) since 1997 and have twice received the special honour presented at the International Emmy Awards for television programming produced to celebrate ICDB.

For the last three years, preparations for ICDB have become a major production at Caracol Radio ? one of the most important radio networks in Latin America ? with the support of UNICEF.

RADIO / EVENTS: Press Release: Media Kidocracy Konference 2006 (SOUTH AFRICA)

Press Release: Media Kidocracy Konference 2006

23 November 2006

A few years ago the thought of Robben Island being over-run by children would have been unheard of, but come the 6th of December, that's exactly what you can expect.

The 2006 Media Kidocracy Konference*, a partnership programme between Robben Island Museum and Bush Radio on Robben Island aims to encourage children between the ages of 12 and 18 years to become involved in the media and talk about the issues that affect their lives.

The theme for this year's conference is CONFLICT AND PEACE BUILDING, making the Robben Island Museum the ideal setting in which the young participants can network and seek solutions to challenges facing today's children and the youth.

Mr. Kwedi Mkalipi, former political prisoner and Robben Island Museum Council member once said "it would have been unrealistic to put a number of people of any political organisation together and expect those people never to quarrel."

So what are the lessons that Ex Political Prisoners(EPPs) learnt during their time on the island that can be of value to young people? The Partnership is very important as it uses the legacy of Robben Island, the lessons learnt by EPPs and the objective of the education department which is "Creating life-long lessons for a Human Rights Culture" that will allow the young people the opportunity to workshop how to use the media as a peace-building tool in a creative way.

This is the 7th annual Kidocracy Konference. A highlight of previous conferences was the International Children and Youth Radio Manifesto, which was accepted at a UN sitting in 2004. The manifesto was drawn up by the young conference participants.

To coincide with the Kidocracy Konference, Bush Radio's Children's Radio Education Workshop (CREW) project turns ten this year, and we're pulling out all the stops to celebrate the tremendous strides they have made. The CREW Project (made up of three groups: tots, kids and teens) have their own radio programmes on Bush Radio every Saturday morning.

At the conference, CREW members will act as hosts and mini-facilitators to their young colleagues from within the region, as well as from as far afield as Canada and Cambodia.

Bush Radio's breakfast presenter Victor J will host his show, It's All Good, live from the island for the duration of the conference.

What you need to know:

What: 2006 Media Kidocracy Konference
When: 6th - 10th December
Where: Robben Island

* The KIDOCRACY KONFRENCE name was specially created for the first KK to denote a form of society characterised by social equality and acceptance of young people with representation for and by young people.

22 November 2006 ? A Moldovan television programme highlighting the importance of sports in children?s development, including teaching them about conflict resolution and equality, has won the 2006 International Children?s Day of Broadcasting Award, presented by the United Nations' children?s agency and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

?Teleradio Moldova best embodied the spirit of the ICDB (International Children?s Day of Broadcasting) by incorporating youth voices in the programming and production process,? UN Children?s Fund?s (UNICEF) Chief of Internet, Broadcast and Image Section Stephen Cassidy said, referring to the broadcaster.

?Chechnya through the Eyes of Children?: Photography exhibition opens in Chechnya

17 November 2006, Grozny - More than a hundred people, including senior officials from the Government of Chechnya, representatives from international agencies, local media and the local community today attended the opening of a photography exhibition called ?Chechnya through the Eyes of Children?. This exhibition, which will run for a fortnight, is presented by UNICEF with financial assistance from the European Commission?s Humanitarian Aid department (ECHO) and is on display in the premises of the Youth Affairs Committee of the Government of Chechnya.

?In my photos I tried to tell the adults that we, the children of Chechnya, need protection and care,? - Yaser Osterkhanov, age 12.

Composed of photographs taken by 10 Chechen children trained by UNICEF and ECHO in photography, the exhibition reflects life in Chechnya as children see it. The opening ceremony was attended by the children themselves who explained to the gathering the messages they wanted to send to the audience through their photos.

?In my photos I tried to tell the adults that we, the children of Chechnya, need protection and care,? said Yaser Osterkhanov, a 12 year-old orphan and contributor of a number of photos. ?We want to live under a bright, peaceful sky. Don?t we deserve it?? he added.

AWARDS: Teleradio Moldova wins 2006 ICDB Award

Teleradio Moldova wins 2006 ICDB Award

NEW YORK, 21 November 2006 - Teleradio Moldova has won the 2006 International Children?s Day of Broadcasting Award, presented by UNICEF and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The award was given to the broadcaster for programming that reflected the International Children?s Day of Broadcasting theme in 2005: Sports for Development and Peace.

The award was presented to Teleradio Moldova Producer Ecaterina Telescu at the Academy?s 34th International Emmy® Awards Gala on November 20 at the Hilton Hotel in New York.

?Teleradio Moldova best embodied the spirit of the ICDB by incorporating youth voices in the programming and production process,? said Stephen Cassidy, Chief of UNICEF?s Internet, Broadcast and Image Section.  ?We were impressed by the high calibre of all the nominees? programmes and proud to have such great work as part of our ICDB initiative.?

Teleradio Moldova?s entry, ?Let?s Play,? featured two hours of programming that included a live talk show, video reports and in-studio games.  The live talk show was moderated by young journalists Daniela Babici (15) and Dumitru Antoceanu (23).  Teams of young journalists pitted their wits and strength against adult journalists in quizzes and sports.

The video reports highlighted the importance of sports in children?s development ? teaching them about conflict resolution, respect, leadership and equality.  The reports captured sports at the ?Friendship, Creativity and Sport? conference; competitions among children?s teams from residential institutions; sports training for children with disabilities; and reports on young people who excel at gymnastics and chess.

Teleradio Moldova was selected from six nominees, which included ATN Bangla (Elegy for Dipu); RCN Television (Bichos Bichez); Gambia Television and Radio Services (ICDB: Children in Charge - Every Child Has the Right to Play); TVE (Los Lunnis) and Syrian Broadcast TV (Let?s Play).

These nominees received Regional ICDB Awards at a breakfast ceremony at UNICEF in New York on Monday, 20 November.

The International Children?s Day of Broadcasting was launched in 1991 to encourage broadcasters worldwide to raise awareness of children?s issues. Each year, youth write, produce and present programmes to express their thoughts on the issues that affect them. In 1994, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and UNICEF established the International Children?s Day of Broadcasting Award to honour the broadcaster who best embraces the spirit of the ICDB.

The International Children?s Day of Broadcasting is celebrated by hundreds of broadcasters around the world each December. The next ICDB, on 10 December 2006, will focus on HIV/AIDS.

Founded in 1969, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is the largest organization of global broadcasters, with more than 500 members representing over 400 companies across nearly 70 countries. The Academy was chartered with a mission to recognize excellence in television programming produced outside the United States and presents the International Emmy® Award to programmes in fourteen categories.  The International Emmy® Awards Gala, on 20 November in New York City, attracted over 1,100 international figures in broadcast, entertainment and media.

NEWS: Media Monitoring Project observes 16 Days coverage (SOUTH AFRICA)

Media Monitoring Project observes 16 Days coverage
---------------------------------------------------------------
By Lavinia Mahlangu

The Media Monitoring Project (MMP) will observe media coverage of gender-based violence and child abuse for a fifth year during the "16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children" campaign.

"We will be looking out for reporting that is respectful of human rights and that which protects the people concerned from further abuse.

"There are definitely ways of presenting quality reporting on gender violence and child abuse, without further violating human rights," says William Bird, Director of the MMP.

This year's theme for the international campaign is "Celebrate 16 Years of 16 Days: Advance Human Rights, End Violence Against Women."

Last year the MMP's research picked up a disturbing trend among some media organisations, of naming or identifying children who had been abused or had witnessed crimes.

While the overall intention of those stories had been clearly positive in raising issues of abuse, said the MMP, they had in fact further violated the rights of the children concerned.

It was found that one in ten children was identified in the media in stories about child abuse.

The organisation said this pointed to the fact that a number of media seemingly chose profit over people's rights to dignity and privacy.

African Development Forum: Digital media training to channel voices of African youth
As part of the activities commemorating the 5th African Development Forum UNESCO, UNICEF and UNECA organized a Media Training Workshop from 9 ? 15 November in Addis Ababa for 35 African youths.

UNESCO - 16-11-2006 7:35

In the spirit of this year?s African Development Forum, organized under the theme ?Youth and leadership in the 21st century?, the workshop equipped these young people to better utilize media (radio, television, print, Internet) as a platform for expression and as a means to foster broader participation of young people in all aspects of societal life.

The workshop participants were selected through UNICEF?s ?Speak Africa Challenge? competition. The theoretical and practical training provided sought to build on and broaden their previous experience in media with a strong focus on using digital and multi-media information delivery.

RADIO / ICDB: Youth radio airs peer-to-peer HIV/AIDS education in Georgia

Youth radio airs peer-to-peer HIV/AIDS education in Georgia

By Maya Kurtsikidze

Each December, UNICEF?s International Children?s Day of Broadcasting involves young people worldwide in media programming and production, giving them a chance to express their opinions on major issues and develop new skills. Here is one in a series of stories about youth media.

TBILISI, Georgia, 14 November 2006 ? Despite a large global increase in HIV cases over the past decade, Georgia still has a low HIV prevalence rate.

The AIDS pandemic has not taken hold here as it has in neighbouring countries like Russia, Ukraine and others in the region. At a mere 0.1 per cent, HIV prevalence in Georgia has not yet approached the critical tripwire of 1 per cent adult infection.

Every Kyrgyz child can now join the Magic Journey

By Galina Solodunova

13 November 2006 - A green balloon glides up to the ceiling of the Children?s Recreation Centre ?Seitek? in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. As the friendly clown released it, the children and adults present shouted ?Green and round!? Kaniet, 4, sitting in the front row, tried to be first to name the colour and shape of the objects being shown by the clown. This little game was part of a preview of a new animated television series called ?Magic Journey?.

?It is the first series of animated stories to be developed in Kyrgyzstan in the last 20 years,? said Vice-President of the National Kyrgyz Tele/Radio Corporation, Beishinbek Bekeshev, at the launch.

NEWS: Communication for Development update from Somalia

Communication for Development update?

Journalists trained:

Forty five journalists were recently trained to provide better coverage of issues related to polio eradication. The journalists were from all parts of Somalia and the Somali region of Ethiopia. The training was timed to precede the next two mass polio vaccination campaigns across the Horn of Africa, starting on 3 November and 3 December 2006 respectively. The training took place over a three-day period in Hargeisa, capital of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland Somalia had been polio-free since 2002 and became re-infected in 2005 by virus reportedly from Yemen.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF organized the workshop to provide journalists with facts for dissemination to the public to help in polio prevention and control, along with numerous ideas for news stories and features. Participants included staff of the Somali service of the British Broadcasting Corporation led by Yusuf Garaad, Head of the Somali Service, as well as Mogadishu-based correspondent, Osman Hassan Barise, better known as the ?most popular man in Somalia?.
"Polio is a hugely important issue for our audiences," said Yusuf Garaad. "The BBC will continue to broadcast objective and reliable information about polio eradication. Thanks to the information presented at this workshop, our programming will be even more relevant."

NEWS: UNICEF to produce documentary to generate awareness (INDIA)

UNICEF to produce documentary to generate awareness

New Delhi, Nov. 14 (PTI): If Meena and her pet parrot Mithu became mascots of the UNICEF in its projects in India, the world body is now gearing up to produce a documentary film aimed at women and child development in the country.

Following the footsteps of the major success of the animation series 'Meena and Mithu', UNICEF is now planning to come up with a documentary film in collaboration with Doordarshan.

"Negotiations are on with Doordarshan. Let's see when we can come up with the documentary. The aim is to make a documentary which will spread over more than 300 episodes," Cecilio Adorna, UNICEF's India representative told PTI here.

Adorna said the documentary should roll out somewhere in 2007 and a substantial budget has been alloted for it.

The documentary will focus on women and children, dwelling on issues such as behavioural changes, sanitation, health and hygiene.

EVENTS / CALL FOR ENTRIES: Children and Youth Productions at BaKaFORUM 2007

Children and Youth Productions

Children and Youth shall do it themselves: producing programmes. The didactical approach to that method mostly is: learning by doing. But it is much more than that. Turning away from that global brand of always the same puppet shows, it is recurring to their own life, to their own culture, to their own strength and power by the means of television. Light cameras (and light technical facilities over all) give children and youth a chance to produce short programmes themselves. Over all, if children and youth get the opportunity to turn their own stories into short programmes, they get a chance to develop self-consciousness and becoming aware of their natural and their social environment.

BaKaFORUM 2007 will put emphasis on that kind of production, with a large thematic approach, even if  programmes connected to the ?producing peace? core theme will be very much appreciated. And still, this session will be open to high quality productions on that focus of war and peace that are not produced by children and youth themselves.

Please register your programmes for screening in the registration area. You may want to register the same programme for screening and for the contest.

Please understand that the BaKaFORUM program committee will have to select the programmes for screening. Thus, we recommend to indicate a time code of a shortcut quote with your first submission, in case the programme may not be selected for a full-length screening. Programme registration deadline: December 1st 2006.

AWARDS: Radio Competition 2006 - Radio Competition 2006

Radio Competition 2006
Radio for Peacebuilding, Africa Awards Winners
The Radio for Peacebuilding, Africa team is happy to inform you that the judges have made their decision and selected the winners for the RFPA Awards 2006. We would like to thank and congratulate the large number of individual radio broadcasters and radio stations which participated.

Awards have been made in three categories (Talkshow, Drama and Youth Radio). The competition recognises the best programmes that contribute to peace. Programmes that reduce tensions in groups and communities, which enhance and value shared interests, that break down listener stereotypes, and that provide positive role models.

In general, the judges were impressed by the quality of many of the programmes which were entered for the competition. Choosing the best programmes sometimes proved to be really hard. For instance, in the Youth Radio section, the judges couldn?t decide between two programmes, and eventually decided to award the first prize to both of them. On the other hand, in the Talk-show category the judges decided to award only two runner-up prizes as they didn?t feel that the others were of a high enough standard.

The winners are:

Talkshow

First Prize (800 Euros):
- Inyanduruko (The roots of evil) produced and broadcast by Radio Isanganiro (Burundi).

Second Prizes (300 Euros):
- Africa Have Your Say produced by BBC World Service, African Productions (United Kingdom).
- Our Peace produced and broadcast by Miraya/Mirror FM (Sudan).

Drama

First Prize (800 Euros):
- Slayed Dog produced and broadcast by BBC World Service, African Productions (United Kingdom).

Second Prizes (300 Euros):
- Domestic Violence produced and broadcast by Radio Sem Fronteiras (Mozambique).
- Gande Mbatsav vo (Beyond Witches and Wizards) produced and broadcast by Radio Benue (Nigeria).
- Libération des prisonniers politiques produced by Studio Ijambo and broadcast by Radio Isanganiro (Burundi).

Youth Radio

First Prize (800 Euros):
- La communauté lutte contre le phénomène des enfants dits sorciers produced by Sisi Watoto Project ? Centre Lokole and broadcast by Radio Maendeleo (Democratic Republic of Congo).
- Ursom ala el ard makaanak (Draw your place on Earth) produced by The Darfur Lifeline Project and broadcast by BBC World Service Trust (Sudan).

Our congratulations to all the winners!

TV: Weekend Spy: Kids TV in crisis?

Weekend Spy: Kids TV in crisis?

Sunday, November 12 2006, 14:08 UTC - by Joanne Oatts

Kids TV as we know, or have known it, is under threat. With growing support for a ban of high fat, salt and sugar foods (HFSS) alongside children's programming, it looks likely that ITV will seek to reduce its children's output to compensate for the lost ad revenue. Many in the industry are worried about what this will do to kids TV in this country. But is this just a load of old fashioned television types trying to protect their jobs, resisting new media and not embracing the multi-channel market? Joanne Oatts investigates.

AWARDS: Japanese broadcaster wins 2006 Child Rights Award

Japanese broadcaster wins 2006 Child Rights Award

Kansai Telecasting Corporation of Japan was declared the winner of the ABU-CASBAA-UNICEF Children?s Rights Award 2006 tonight for its year-long reportage on child abuse in the country.

The winning documentary, entitled ?Conquering the Darkness ? The Fight Against Memories of Abuse?, features a 33-year-old mother who was abused as a child and who subsequently abused her own children.

Its producer, Shinichi Sugimoto, received the award during the ABU Prizes 2006 presentation ceremony which was held on the first day of the 43rd ABU General Assembly in Beijing.

On his win, he said: "We are often quick to point the finger at parents who abuse their children, but patterns of abuse so often begin in childhood, creating a chain that can continue over generations.

"I am greatly honoured that our documentary has been selected for the Child Right's Award. I also would like to urge the media to help us realise our quest for a society free of abuse, prejudice and persecution."

Established in 2001, the Child Rights Award is given to the best television programming on a child rights issues produced in the Asia-Pacific region. It recognises the efforts of broadcasters in pursuing the production of top-quality children's programmes and better news coverage of children's issues.

This year, the Child Rights Award received a total of 40 entries from countries such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Japan, Mongolia, the Philippines, South Korea and Singapore.

ABU Secretary-General, David Astley, said: "The Child Rights Award is a significant platform that allows broadcasters in the Asia- Pacific to demonstrate their ability to produce quality programming on children's issues. The ABU wants to encourage broadcasters to continue to invest in such programmes in the future."

Simon Twiston Davies, CEO of the Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia (CASBAA), said that the continued participation of regional broadcasters in the award underlined their resolve towards producing educational and entertaining programmes for and about children.

Madeline Eisner, UNICEF Regional Communication Advisor for East Asia and the
Pacific Office, said: "This year's entries continue to illustrate the great influence television wields to command the attention of viewers regarding issues affecting children and comes at a timely moment with the just released UN Secretary-General's study on violence against children."

RADIO: Botswana radio training helps young people speak their minds for all to hear

Botswana radio training helps young people speak their minds for all to hear

By Blue Chevigny

NEW YORK, USA, 10 November 2006 ? Thirteen children between the ages of 10 and 16 recently completed a radio production training workshop in Gabarone, Botswana. The workshop culminated in the making of a 12-minute programme covering such topics as sports, music and violence against children, and highlighting the voices and new skills of all the participants.

Radio Botswana, which airs several children?s programmes, has decided to convert those shows to child-to-child broadcasts using youth production as much as possible. The radio training workshop ? held in September, sponsored by Radio Botswana and supported by UNICEF ? was a step in that direction.

Youth media production initiatives like the Botswana project reinforce the right of children to express their opinions and make decisions about the issues that directly affect them.

Staying safe online: EU programme leads the way

An independent evaluation finds that the EU?s Safer Internet programme, which promote safer internet use, particularly for children, has been very effective in tackling illegal and harmful internet content, whilst respecting people?s freedom of expression. The Commission is taking into account the recommendations of these experts, in its implementation of the ?Safer Internet plus? programme in 2007-2008. Meanwhile, the current programme is being used as a model by other regions of the world.

"We have come a long way and very quickly," said Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and Media. "For many years the Safer Internet programme has been successfully promoting safer use of internet and other online technologies, particularly by children, and fighting illegal and harmful content ranging from child pornography to racism. The Commission has also encouraged industry to be more proactive in dealing with child safety."

COMPETITIONS: Mangalore: Budding Film-makers to Compete at 'Shooting Stars' Film Contest (INDIA)

Mangalore: Budding Film-makers to Compete at 'Shooting Stars' Film Contest

Daijiworld News Network - Mangalore (GA)

Mangalore, Nov 4: Department of Journalism of St Aloysius College has
announced the second edition of its prestigious "Shootings Stars" -
students' short film making competition cum film festival to be between
December 2006 and February 2007.

Shooting Stars, a brainchild of Fr Richard Rego SJ, department of journalism
was started last year and it met with immense success. Initially it was
intended to be a platform for the media students of the college to explore
their creativity in various areas of film making. In its first edition,
students of journalism, SAC, made 10 short films ranging of about 10 minutes
each, using low-end single CCD cameras and non-linear editing machines
provided by the department of journalism.

The theme of the last edition was Youth. The films briefly explored themes
like drug abuse, youth friendships and spirit of perseverance. Following the
competition, the department of journalism held a press conference
exclusively for the young filmmakers (a group of about 40 students), who
interacted with the media, sharing their experiences of tryst with this
glamorous media.

This year, the general theme of Shooting Stars is "Youth and Shaping a
Better Society." Students are permitted to use the infrastructure provided
by the department and make their films in groups. In an attempt to encourage
youngsters to make films in Kannada and Konkani the competition promises to
support the Kannada and Konkani student film makers, with attractive
incentives. 'Shooting Stars' also provides a forum for the budding and
aspiring filmmakers of the college to explore their creativity and show them
to well known film makers and film experts, besides being the cynosures of
public attention.

FILMS: Barbadian children's film well received in Chicago

Barbadian children's film well received in Chicago
Web Posted - Mon Nov 06 2006

By Allison Ramsay

A Barbadian children's film was the only Caribbean film to be screened at the recently held Chicago International Children's Festival, and officials from the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) are currently in negotiations to air the film on CBC TV8.

This achievement is a first for a Barbadian production, noted chief cultural officer Andrea Wells, as the NCF continues to develop the film industry, spending already $500 000 through the Cultural Action Fund in the last two years. At a media briefing held recently at the NCF headquarters in Wanstead, St. James, Wells explained, "The Baobab Tree" is one of the initial fulfillments of a programme that was conceptualised by the Theatre Arts desk of the Cultural Development Department ... designed specifically to develop, creative and innovative children's educational tv programming.

After a one-year test phase, the Bundesverband Jugend und Film e.V. (BJF ? German federation of film clubs for children and young people) has now launched an online festival submission portal for young filmmakers. Similar to the "reelport" submission platform, but without a streaming option or sales component, "filmfestivals4u" allows filmmakers to register their works and then submit them to several festivals simultaneously "at the touch of a button". The platform addresses filmmakers up to 27 years of age who are not yet producing films commercially.

These platforms promote works by younger filmmakers, many of whom are just launching their professional careers and for the most part have not yet begun or not yet completed their studies. Shortfilm.de presents some of these opportunities and examines their potential.

Film festival to celebrate Europe's Roma, with eminent film maker Tony Gatlif

The two-week festival will feature seven critically acclaimed films* at Strasbourg's premier international cinema, L'Odyssée. Council of Europe representatives and experts will be on hand for discussions after certain times.

Two award ceremonies will be held for the best script and for the best video short and winners will be honoured on 7 November during the special evening.

The ambassador of Finland, whose country has donated much to help make the festival possible, and the President of the European Roma and Travellers Forum - an international NGO created at the initiative of the President of Finland - will participate.

A live Roma music performance by the band Di Mauro Swing is also scheduled the same evening.

OPPORTUNITIES: MTV and StayingAlive are launching Vlogit

HIV and AIDS: we know it?s a global pandemic. We also know that if we want to see real change we?ve got to give everyone a voice.

MTV?s Staying Alive are launching Vlogit, a multi platform, interactive competition that asks you to get in front of a camera and talk candidly about HIV and AIDS. Regardless of your experiences we want you to speak out -- and help make change happen.

What?s a vlog? Essentially, it?s just a technical term for a video diary.

We will be providing video cameras ? for keeps - to the people who have the most interesting, original and frank experiences / thoughts to share.

We?ll be making a TV programme showcasing the best vlogs ? to be screened around the world and will also be running a huge online campaign ? This really is your chance to be part of something truly global.

In order to take part you?ll need to fill out our application form- there are two main sections to this?

Firstly? you?ll need to provide us with your personal details: name, age, where you live etc.

Secondly? and this is the important bit? you?ll need to tell us what you?d talk about. Make sure you keep it to 250 words but do try and include as much detail as possible ? after all this is how we?ll be deciding who gets a camera.

Before completing the application form make sure you have a good read of the terms and conditions.

The closing date for entries is December 31st 2006.

"Together, we'll help young people make their voices heard to make positive changes in their communities."

Introduced earlier this year, the program consists of various projects supporting collaboration with other young people in the participants' communities and throughout the world. Teachers and leaders for Adobe Youth Voices are attending orientation sessions in all geographies to learn more about the resources available to maximize the program in their communities. Adobe is providing creative software including Adobe(R) Creative Suite(R), Adobe Photoshop(R) Elements and Adobe Premiere(R) Elements software to facilitate youth expression and financial assistance to aid in the production and broad distribution and exhibition of youth media products.

"Learning occurs best when young minds are excited and interested about the possibility of having a real impact on the world around them, and the learning remains when there are real audiences and applications for that learning," said Phyllis Gregory, London Commissioner Advanced Skills Teacher, Lilian Baylis Technology School, London. "Digital applications allow young people to have that immediate effect."
